THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER is an album by Alice Cooper, that was released in 2003. Although it has been said that the title is a reference to the 2000 documentary known as THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE, in October 2007, Alice said that was not the case. A notable fact is the album cover, which was released in four different versions, only differing from the colour in Cooper's eyes. They are available in red, blue, purple and green.
The resurgence of garage rock inspired veteran shock-rocker to embark on a long-overdue return to the sound he helped pioneer in the 1970's. With this album Cooper returned to his earlier musical roots: meat-and-potatoes hard rock sound, infectious melodies, hooks and a wall of guitars. He left the heavy industrial metal sound found in his last two studio albums.
Stripped of the 80's metal armor burden as well, Alice has found ideal collaborators in guitarists Ryan Roxie and Eric Dover (the latter known for the 60's and 70's rock sound of his work with Imperial Drag and Jellyfish). Lyrically, Cooper has his tongue planted firmly in cheek. From tales of trailer trash ("What Do You Want From Me?"), morbid sarcasm ("Man of the Year") to the requisite macabre ("This House Is Haunted"), Alice has lost none of his edge. In fact, on "Detroit City," Cooper pays tribute to the musical legacy of his beloved hometown, featuring a guest spot by MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer. THE EYES OF ALICE COOPER captures its twisted creator inspired and poised to shock the masses with his time-honored talent. With the help of producer Mudrock (Powerman 5000, Godsmack) and a crack band, Cooper succeeds beyond expectations.
